Proof of Identity required to apply for PAN Card by an Individual who is Indian Citizen

Following are the required documents out of which anyone can be submitted as identity proof.

  • Copy of voter’s identity card
  • Ration card with the applicant’s photograph
  • Copy of passport
  • Copy of driving license
  • Arm’s license
  • Copy of Aadhar card issued by Unique Identification Authority of India
  • Photo identity card issued by a central government or state government or any other public sector undertaking
  • Central government health scheme card
  • Bank certificate containing an attested photograph of the applicant along with bank account number of the applicant
  • Copy of pensioner card having a photograph of the applicant

Proof of Identity Required for PAN Application by an individual who is not an Indian citizen

Following are the documents out of which anyone can be submitted as identity proof by an individual who is not an Indian citizen

  • Copy of passport or
  • Copy of Person of Indian Origin card issued by the Indian Government or
  • Copy of overseas citizenship of India card issued by the Indian Government
  • Copy of other national or citizenship Identification Number or Taxpayer Identification Number duly attested by Apostille or by Indian Embassy or High Commission or Consulate in the country where the PAN applicant is located

 

Address Proof for PAN Card Application by a Foreign Citizen

Copy of any of the following documents is required to be submitted as address proof.

  • Copy of passport or
  • Copy of Person of Indian Origin card issued by the Indian Government or
  • Copy of overseas citizenship of India card issued by the Indian Government
  • Copy of other national or citizenship Identification Number or Taxpayer Identification Number duly attested by Apostille or by Indian Embassy or High Commission or Consulate in the country where the PAN applicant is located
  • Copy of bank account statements in the country of residence
  • Copy of non-resident external bank account statements in India
  • Copy of registration certificate which is issued by Foreigner’s Registration Office and shows Indian address

Documents Required for HUF(Hindu Undivided Family) PAN Application

Hindu Undivided families are units which joint families in India form if there is a family business that is being shared between family members. This unit is required because in such situations there is a joint income earned and hence the income tax is attributed to the whole unit. For a Hindu Undivided Family or HUF, a single PAN is assigned to the whole unit. The application process requires a certain set of documents to be submitted. All Hindu Undivided Families are supposed to select a who is required to carry out all official formalities on behalf of the HUF. These documents are listed above and are same as the documents that are applicable to all citizens of India.

Apart from that, they will need to submit the following additional documents:

  • A declaration signed by the Karta of the HUF stating the name, father’s name and address of all the HUF members
  • Copy of any of the above-listed proof documents of the member who is supposed to act as the karta of the Hindu Undivided Family

 

Company Need to Submit Following Documents to Apply Pan

Documents required by any registered company for PAN Card Application in India are just a couple of things. This so because companies do not have a huge list of address or identity proofs to choose from in order to apply for PAN.

A Limited Liability Partnership is where all partners have limited liabilities and no one partner is responsible for misconduct or negligence of the other partner/partners. Following are the two documents required by LLPs for PAN application in India. Either of these documents can be submitted.

  • Copy of Registration Certificate issued by the Registrar of Limited Liability Partnerships or;
  • Copy of partnership deed

Documents required for PAN application by a Limited Liability Partnership registered outside India are as follows

  • Copy of certificate of registration issued by the Registrar of Firms or copy of Partnership Deed
  • Copy of Registration Certificate issued in India or copy of approval granted to set up LLP in India by Indian authorities

 

Required Documents for PAN Card Application by Trusts Registered or Formed in India

An Association of Persons (Trust) is a unit that is formed by a group of individuals and is allowed to hold assets on behalf of a beneficiary or beneficiaries. Trusts can be formed in several different ways based on the aim of the unit.

Following are the documents required by a trust which is trying to apply for PAN.

  • Copy of deed of Trust
  • Copy of Certificate of Registration Number issued by Charity Commissioner

 

Documents Required to Apply for PAN Card by Trusts Registered outside India

Documents required for PAN application by an Association of Persons (Trusts) registered outside India

  • Copy of certificate of registration issued by the Registrar of Firms or copy of Partnership Deed
  • Copy of Registration Certificate issued in India or copy of approval granted to set up the trust in India by Indian authorities

 

Documents Required for PAN Application by an Association of Persons (other than Trusts) Registered in India

Following are the documents required by the above-listed entities for the purpose of PAN application by an Association of Persons (other than Trusts) or body of individuals or local authority or artificial juridical person registered or formed in India

  • Agreement copy
  • copy of Certificate of Registration Number issued by Charity Commissioner or Registrar of Co-operative Society or any other Competent Authority; or
  • Any other document originating from any Central Government or State Government Department establishing Identity and address of such person.

 

Documents required for PAN Application by an Association of Persons (other than Trusts) Registered outside India

Following are the Documents Required for PAN application by an Association of persons (except trusts) or body of individuals or local authority or any other entity registered outside India

  • Copy of certificate of registration issued by the Registrar of Firms or copy of Partnership Deed
  • Copy of Registration Certificate issued in India or copy of approval granted to set up the entity in India by Indian authorities

The above-listed information on documents required is based on the entity that is applying for PAN and based also on whether that entity is located in India or outside. Different documents are required in case the entity is not located in India. This is because standard proof documents are neither available nor relevant in such cases.
